When we interviewed Jen Bergeron, she was in her fourth year as the band director at Galvez Middle School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Jen is now the head band director at Walsh Middle School in Austin, Texas. Jen agreed to work with us to pilot test The Habits of Musicianship with her 6th grade beginning band program, starting 105 beginners in the fall of 2006. After their first year, 102 of her beginners enrolled for 7th grade band in 2007.
We interviewed Jen in June of 2007, at the end of her third year of teaching, and asked her about her experiences and those of her students. Excerpts from that interview are are presented on this page.
